Surya Namaskarams

The Best Time for Practice

It is most beneficial for one to do Surya Namaskarams at around 5 am, before sunrise. This is because we have to be in a fit condition to receive the first rays of sunlight that bring life-giving ultraviolet energy that nourishes and rejuvenates our body. It is around the early morning hours that our mind is fresh and in a state to receive the rejuvenating sunlight.

The King of All Exercises

Compared to other forms of exercise which require one or more companions, an apparatus or appliance, a huge investment of time, or a spacious ground, and only stimulate/strengthen specific muscles or limbs, Surya Namaskaram is much more efficient and productive, as it develop/strengthens all the body's systems, vital organs and muscles from the cellular level with minimal time or effort.

Bija Mantra and Pranava Chanting

Every Namaskaram is performed by chanting Pranava (Omkara) along with Bija Mantra and a name of the Sun. Each unique Bija Mantra, a combination of the sounds Ra, Ha, and variations caused by vowels, coupled with Omkara, produces stimulations and vibrations in different vital parts of the body, consequently removing toxins and ailments, and purifying the systems. The names of the Sun are also used to invoke specific subtle effects in the personality of the practicioner.
