Yesterday, I received training and obtained my CPR certification in accordance with the curriculum of the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) Program. It was an informative and educative course. Learning CPR and being able to help in an emergency with it is immensely gratifying.

CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is an emergency procedure that combines a series of chest compressions and rescue breaths in order to help someone who, due to cardiac arrest, has stopped breathing and isn't responsive. It is done to help someone before an ambulance or AED arrives.

During the session, we practiced giving compressions on models and replicas of both adults and infants. Detailed tutorials showed us what to do in specific situations. We learned how to properly use an AED (automatic external defibrillator) when in an emergency. We also learnt how to stop choking in both infants and adults.
Overall, it was a very informative and educative session. Our instructor, Alexander Arrivillaga, was kind, humorous, and made the session memorable. He was very encouraging and made us laugh with some of his anecdotes while teaching and training us for important life-saving situations.

I feel very confident that I can help save a life with CPR if needed. With the guidance of Alexander, I feel very prepared knowing that I am trained for emergencies. I have gained an awareness of my surroundings and the fact that every second matters and we could act at any moment.
The session takes just a few hours and can help save a life in any emergency situation. The more we know about ways to help people in dire situations, the more we can contribute and make our society healthier, happier, and stronger.
